A day with the missionaries!

So yesterday, I spent some time with the elders on their P-Day.  We went to the Library where they emailed their families and I read a good book.  After which we went to Wal-mart (wali-world), where they did their shopping for the week.  Then I drove them home and went to my orthodontist appointment at Garn and Mason Orthodontics.  After my appoint ment i got another call from the missionaries asking me if I could make a video for them.  I said yes and made a dvd of President Thomas S. Monson's Be of Good Cheer talk he gave during the April 2009 conference.  When they came by to pick it up they had also come with a pair of whit button up shirts so they could complete their one year mark tradition  where they burn their white shirts.  So it was a very good day with the missionaries.

Got a Letter From my Mission President!!

Dear Elder Tyler Jesse King,

We are so pleased to know that you have your call is divinely inspired and that you have been called by the Lord and Prophets to the Peru Lima South Mission! We know that your call is divinely inspired and that you have been called to this mission for a very important purpose.

You have been called to a wonderful mission! The Church is very strong and well respected in most parts of the mission.  The Leaders and members are willing to help us find and teach many people the restored gospel.

The Peruvians are a special, chosen people; many are direct descendents of father Lehi and are very interested and receptive to the Book of Mormon. They are kind, humble loving, generous, and many are hungry for the gospel Jesus Christ.

We have great missionaries in the Peru Lima South Mission! They are striving to be exact in their obedience to the covenants they have made with God. We expect you to be an obedient, dedicated missionary.  You are coming to a "Preach My Gospel" mission.  We are incorporating the teachings of Preach My Gospel daily.  We expect that you have been and are carefully studying it every day.

We express to you our love and excitement for you call to serve in one of the greatest missions in the world.  We can't wait to meet you and serve with you!

Sincerely,

Roger C. Manning
Mission President
Peru Lima South

Desert Rain

Rain, rain, come today, come today and every day!
There is something wonderful about a desert rain. I almost can't describe it. It could be the fact that it never rains here and it is a nice change from the ordinary, but I doubt it. It could be the fact that for a second everyone pauses and enjoys what is happening around them before they rush off to work, its possible. It could even be the fact that it cleans the air, and refreshes the world bringing new life, most likely.

It could be the smell, that makes me breathe deep and smile. it could be mere sight of how the colors seem to pop out more, the noble gray clouds, the greens plants more full of life. It could be the sound, a hypnotic rhythm of water plummeting from the sky, the deep rolling thunder, and the trickle of water flowing down the street. It could be the taste of catching water in the air on your tongue, a refreshing crisp taste that keeps you full of energy. Or it could be the feel of the water running over your body as you spin in the rain with arms outstretched.

whatever it is, I'm grateful that it is there. I love this wonderful world that god created. I love the summer rain.

Rain, rain, come today, come today and everyday.
So I woke up this morning after having a crazy dream, where I was having fish and shrimp covered in whip cream for breakfast. Then when my mom was leaving for work I said "Good night" so I think it is safe to say that I am in a funk, and today is going to be an interesting day.

So tonight I went to a missionary preparation class (mission-prep). It was wonderful, we talked about following the inspiration of the spirit. We also talked about how spirit will always be with us, and it will direct us in all things. Then we went to D&C and read how the servant that is directed in all things the same is a slothful and not a wise servant.

So we talked about how sometimes the lord relies upon us to make our own decisions, and that we need to use our free agency but be willing to submit and follow the spirit. It was a wonderful and spiritual discussion.

The Purpose of This Blog!

Ok so I am really not a blogging kind of Person, but I was asked to make one so that people will be able to keep up with what I am doing.

On January 7th 2010, I was called to serve as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in the Peru Lima South Mission. I will report to the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo Utah on April 7th 2010.

While I am on my mission, I will communicate with my family through email, and letters, which be posted on this Blog so that if anyone wants to know whats going on they can just read whats been going on.

Hopefully it won't be as hard to keep up as it sounds.

Until I report to the MTC however I will use this blog to share some of the experiences that I am going through to prepare for my mission.
Hey I just started this blog so that when I send letters home from my mission everyone can read them!!!
